Thank you for being a part of our community!
Islah LA January 2022 Highlights
MLK Day of Service
In partnership with Islamic Relief, Islah hosted a Day of Service on January 16th in honor of MLK day. We distributed 200 pre-packaged meals, 140 backpacks with winter supplies, and 90 shirts for individuals in need all around the South LA area. In addition to those in our area, we distributed to 50 individuals living in homeless encampments around LA. Thank you to our hard-working volunteers and to Islamic Relief for helping us serve our community.
Islah LA continues to serve the South LA community through our weekly food pantry, thanks to our partnership with Islamic Relief and the dedication of our community members and volunteers. In the month of January, we served 1,639 individuals’ worth of food, drink and other essential items. 143 different households and 583 different individuals were served over the course of the month, with most coming back weekly. This service has truly helped uplift our local community and we thank everyone who is involved with making it possible.
Islah continues to provide 40 low cost housing units for brothers and sisters who were struggling, homeless, or incarcerated. This program gives them a chance to get back on their feet and reintegrate into society.
Our very own Imam Jihad Saafir is holding a virtual Qur’an Tafseer class every Monday night from 7-8pm. The class is free, please use the link on the flyer to register.
On February 26 at 3:30pm at Islah, we are holding an event for Black History Month titled Front Porch Stories. Please join us to celebrate the rich history of our people.
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) said, “The person who will receive the highest reward for Salat (prayer) is the one who comes to perform in the mosque from the farthest distance, and he who waits for Salat to perform with the Imam (in congregation) will have a greater reward than the one who observes it alone and then goes to sleep.” – Bukhari & Muslim.
We are holding Fajr prayer in congregation at the Islah facility every Sunday. Please join us to pray Fajr with your brothers and sisters.
Alhamdulillah, we have been able to accomplish so much even through this time of the pandemic. However, we rely on your continued support to keep doing this work. Please donate and help us continue to serve our community. May Allah bless you all.
Remembering Imam Ayman Abdul-Mujeeb
Imam Ayman was a pioneer and pillar of our Muslim community. His brilliance was clear ever since he first became a part of the Muslim community in 1973, establishing several businesses including the famous fish crew with Abdur-Rahim Muhammad and Imam Saadiq Saafir. He continued to lay the foundations for the growth of our community through his leadership, knowledge, and care. We could not be where we are today without Imam Ayman. He taught Islam and Qur’an to many of us as well as our children. May Allah grant him continuous rewards from the countless Muslims he taught and guided, and place him in the highest levels of Jannah.
